Metro
rail isn’t a luxury, but is a mere necessity. For most of
the cities worldwide metro is the most preferable mass transport system as it
offers travel-friendly environment and provides feasible solutions to various
challenges which occur in the process of the expansion of the city.
Hyderabad Metro! The 16,375
Crore rupee megaproject is the world’s largest project carried on in the PPP
(Public Private Partnership) model, where an amount of 1,458 Crore rupees is
granted by the Government to bridge the viability gap. When commenced, Hyderabad’s
Metro Rail project will become the world’s most advanced metro rail system
using state of the art technology and resources in Station Planning, Train
control Systems, Signaling systems, Track monitoring, MEP, and Communication
systems, covering a total of 72 KMs in three traffic corridors with 57 Trains.
The first
phase from Nagole to Miyapur runs for 30 KMs via Ameerpet interchange metro
station, and is set to start its run from 28th of November by the
hands of the Prime minister of India at Miyapur station. When commenced, it will be the
longest initial stretch for any metro launch in India.
Following are
a few highlights and interesting points of the Hyderabad’s most ambitious
Project.
Metro’s
impact on the city.
·
Connects major areas:
The
project significantly improves the connectivity between all the major locales
of the city i.e., Miyapur, MGBS, Koti, Dilshuknagar, Charminar, and Jubilee Bus
station which as of today is grossly insufficient and often crowded. This also
results in faster, hassle-free and safer mobility to all the commuters.
·
Business Opportunities:
Hyderabad’s
metro rail project provides various business opportunities to the
industrialists by integrating shopping complexes and multiplex theatres to the
nearest metro rail stations and providing areas on rent/lease for commercial
purposes.
·
Youth Empowerment:
L&T
Hyderabad’s metro rail provides various job opportunities to the youth so as to
encourage them in learning and enhancing their knowledge as well as skillset.
The employees of the project are going to be provided various benefits such as
work life balance, flexibility, professional freedom and cooperative as well as
supportive work environment. This project provides scope for innovation and
exploration of new ideas while absorbing the strength from the practices that
have been already established.
·
Eco friendly:
Air
pollution and traffic on roads would be reduced as the metro provides mass
transport to the citizens of Hyderabad which reduces the heavy usage of
personal vehicles and the journey time of the passengers.
·
Women Empowerment:
Hyderabad’s
metro project encourages women empowerment as the trains are going to be
controlled by 100 pilots out of whom 66 are men and 34 are women. This ratio may
seem low, but it is significantly higher when compared to the national average
of similar jobs in railways and other metro services.
·
